A Persian medallion under electric blue.

A Persian field with a round medallion, scrolling vines and a wide framed border, all drawn in navy. Then the whole rug went into electric blue, and the pattern wore through unevenly: sharp in the middle, faint across the top, gone in broad pale sweeps over the corners.

The blue and the worn sweeps are part of the design; the rug arrives new. One colour makes it easy: it sits well on pale concrete or white tile, and next to a pink or mustard chair it sings.
